Derby Wars Weekend Action

This weekend’s action on the online tournament site Derby Wars was not much different than the first: EXCITING!!!  The Friday $10,000 NHC Qualifier was won by Rich Nilsen in a dog fight over 207 others.   Jason Baker won Saturday’s $5K contest by a nose, while Joe Koury toppled Sunday’s $15,000 Big Game and ended up taking home the big $4,000 prize.

 $10,000 NHC Qualifier

On Friday October 14th, Rich Nilsen, or known to some as “AGameofSkill.com”, came rolling down the stretch, hitting four out of the six final races.  In a contest that featured a 12-race card and 207 competitors, Nilsen’s biggest win was hitting Wild About Maria in the ninth at Keeneland. “It was a layoff horse with a strong turf record,” said Rich, “one of the best in the field, so the odds were a big overlay. I believe she was trained by a good layoff trainer, Scott Lake.”  To date, Nilsen has qualified for the NHC nine times and is currently in eighth place on the NTRA Tour.

With four strikes, Nilsen’s winnings totaled $97.80 and another seat to the January NHC Championship in Las Vegas.  Did I say another?  Yes, that’s right - Mr. Nilsen has already qualified for the NHC.  With that being said, the seat in Friday’s contest went to the second place finisher Frank Sorenson (frank s).  Frank was too ecstatic to comment.

You can follow Rich Nilsen on his new website, AGameofSkill.com.

The Friday NHC Qualifier is only $25, and starting this week, you can buy 2 entries for twice the chances to qualify for the $2 Million NHC Championship in Vegas!

$5,000 Saturday Game

The fun did not end Friday as Saturday’s $5,000 contest was won by Jason “JBaker826” Baker.  Topping a field of 106 participants, Baker rolled home to victory on the shoulders of Soft Whisper in the twelfth and final race on the card.  Soft Whisper paid out $33.60 in the win-place format and with that hit gave Baker $106.30 in total winnings.  Overall the $1,500 prize was Jason’s biggest win to date.

When asked about his style of play, Baker responded: “My handicapping style can best be described as a hybrid.  I first look at pace, class and speed.  It is also important to recognize how successful the connections of the horse are.  This style has evolved over time and is consistently improving by being a regular on Dell Yount's UpInClass.com horse racing message board.”

The Saturday $5K game gets cozier this week – down from 220 spots to only 110. So enter early, and you can earn 100 bonus points!

$15,000 Sunday Big Game

The weekend action wrapped up with the 116 player $15,000 Big Game.  This contest was topped by Joe Koury, AKA “JoeK”.  Winning the $4,000 first place prize, Koury hit the board on five out of the twelve races for a total of $129.50.  Joe’s biggest win came in the tenth at Woodbine as Sarah Lynx came storming down the stretch to pay a whopping $63.40. Her Timeform ratings were improving and jockey Soumillon had ridden her to two prior wins.  “I thought she’d offer better contest value being a filly vs. the boys” said Koury. “The clincher was listening to the track feed from Woodbine where they mentioned how great she looked in the paddock.”   JoeK also hit the last race on the card for $11.20 which moved him up in front of Mayo4862 and Hammer for the first place finish.

You can be the next winner profiled here when you play Derby Wars. With free points games every day and cash games starting as low as $6, you don’t have to be a whale to win!
