Deep Brillante wins the Japanese Derby

It was a day of firsts, the recently unsuspended Yasunari Iwata’s first Derby winning ride, trainer Yoshito Yahagi’s first Derby winning trainee, and sire Deep Impact’s first Derby winning offspring. Deep Brillante broke clean and fast, hitting the front in the first few strides of the race before the pace setters, Zelos and Tosen Homareboshi who over the course of the race put quite a few lengths between them and the rest of the pack.
