The landscape of the all-stakes late Pick 4 on Haskell Preview day at Monmouth Park has changed with four key scratches.

Winner of the last five Monmouth Stakes (G3), trainer Chad Brown scratched Public Sector, one of his two entries in this 1 1/8 miles turf contest. Instead, Public Sector will run on Saturday in the Poker Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park. The 3-1 morning line favorite Sacred Life will attempt to keep Chad Brown’s Monmouth Stakes win streak alive.

Trainer Danny Gargan's Tax (20-1 ML) was also scratched from the Monmouth Stakes. Winner of the 2019 Jim Dandy (G2), this would have been his first turf attempt. This 2019 Kentucky Derby and Belmont starter would have been making his first start since his 10th-place finish in the Jan. 2021 Pegasus World Cup (G1).

DJ Stables Helium has scratched out of the Grade 3 $150,000 Salvator Mile contested over Monmouth Park’s dirt track. He was 8-1 on the morning line.

Helium was likely to be near the front early on, so this does change the pace dynamic. It likely favors Hot Rod Charlie and Mind Control, and making it more difficult for the closer, Grade 1-winner and turf-specialist, Shirl’s Speight.

The $150,000 Pegasus Stakes, going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt, will be run without Catalyst Stable Magdalena Racing Dash Attack, who was 7-2 on the morning line. Winner of the Long Branch Stakes when dueling at the second call and leading throughout the stretch at Monmouth in his last start, his absence will certainly favor the several others who will be looking for that exact trip.

Noneedtoworry (20-1 ML) was also scratched from the Pegasus.
