Trainer Chad Brown won Grade 1 races on both coasts Saturday thanks to a pair of equally impressive turns of foot.

In the hours following Dunbar Road’s late-kicking score in Saratoga’s Alabama Stakes (G1), favored Cambier Parc blitzed down the center of the track to take the Grade 1, $300,000 Del Mar Oaks.

The 6-5 top choice was well out of it turning for home, sixth and carried out widest of all under jockey John Velazquez. That proved no problem once the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro straightened up and tracked down the late leaders.

The final time for 1 1/8 miles on firm going was 1:46.75.

“It sure is nice to ride one like this," Velazquez said. "When you ask for it, they give it to you. We were in a good spot the first time by the wire and comfortable. When we went past the three-quarters, I shifted her out to where she was comfortable.

"We’d already saved enough ground and I wanted to get her going. She took care of it from there.”

Behind Cambier Parc, Hidden Message and Lady Prancealot finished in the money.

Cambier Parc runs in the red and white silks of Larry Best's OXO Equine. Two starts back she won Belmont Park's Wonder Again (G3) before butting heads with the nation's top 3-year-old turf filly, Concrete Rose, when third in the Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1).

Overall, Cambier Parc, who Best spent $1.25 million to acquire as a yearling, is 4-0-1 in seven starts.

This victory marked the first Grade 1 win for Best.

"It's more exciting than what I would have thought it would be," he said.

Cambier Parc rested seventh of 13 up the back stretch after Raymundos Secret clicked off opening fractions of 23.31 and 46.89 seconds.

"I was a little nervous to be honest with you," Best said. "I like her to be a little bit further ahead, but when she came around the turn on the outside and knowing the strength of the horse and what Chad did to prepare the horse, she had the energy to make it happen.

"Then with Jonny V. on top, I said, 'We could win this.' Then when it was happening, I had to close my eyes."
