Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies: Keys to cashing big at Del Mar

Check out these Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies 2017 tips from Horse Racing Nation's Mike Shutty, founder of the Super Screener.

Post time for the Juvenile Fillies is 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Del Mar, with a look at the field and odds available here.

4 of the last 5 winners of this race exited their final prep race from Santa Anita.

Your winner is either the pace leader or a presser, which has been the case for the vast majority of winners for this race. But more emphasis will be placed on presser and off-the-pace types with the shift to Del Mar.

The 3rd-place slot in this race is dominated by closer types. A good wagering strategy would be to lock your favorite closers in the 3 hole of a trifecta using your top picks in the 1st and 2nd tiers.

This used to be a race that was a favorite’s paradise, but 3 of the past 4 editions have been bombs away with 30-1+ long shots ruling the day. Keeneland has been a good source of both top value and long shot types.

While the run into the first turn isn’t as abbreviated as it is for races carded at the mile still compromises horses securing positions in outside posts. However, this year’s edition of the race may only yield nine runners, so post position isn’t going to be a factor here.
