Breeders' Cup 2018 odds: Steep drop in price on Diversify

Diversify, this time last week listed at 60-1 for the Breeders' Cup Classic at the Wynn Las Vegas, won't be found for that high of a price again. By Saturday evening, following his gate-to-wire win in the Grade 1 Whitney Stakes, the horse dropped to 10-1 at the Wynn, now among the top choices.

Only Haskell Invitational winner Good Magic (4-1), West Coast (6-1), Collected (8-1) and Thunder Snow (9-1) are listed at a shorter price three months out from the Nov. 3 race at Churchill Downs.

Good Magic will run next in the Aug. 25 Travers at Saratoga. West Coast could go directly into the Classic off a layoff, while a race hasn't been announced for his Bob Baffert stablemate, Collected, who also recently returned to training.

The Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow is expected to prep twice for the Classic, with one of those races in the U.S. It's possible he runs into Diversify in Belmont Park's Jockey Club Gold Cup, a race Diversify won last year.

One thing working against Diversify in the Classic: He's a need-the-lead type of horse, and even when he got it last November in Churchill Downs' Clark Handicap, he faded to fourth in the 1 1/8-mile race.

The anticipated favorite for the Aug. 18 Pacific Classic at Del Mar, Accelerate is also 10-1 at the Wynn and eligible to go lower should he win a third Grade 1 race this year.
