Summer racing draws to a thrilling close with Black Caviar, The Great Horse Raceday, featuring the $750,000 Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington.
Black Caviar, The Great Horse Raceday presents a new experience for racegoers and combines the excitement of world-class thoroughbred racing with a taste of Asian culture.
Live roving entertainment will bring elements of Asia to Flemington through Wadaiko Rindo Japanese drummers, Cai Shen, and Geisha girls on stilts as well as stage performances from Magician Neo and the Xtreme Team from Hall’s Taekwondo.
Also on the west end of the front lawn will be TAB’s ‘We Love a Bet’ karaoke activation, alongside a delicious array of food trucks for all guests to enjoy.
The hawker-style food experience will include sweet sensations from LuxBite, handmade dim sum from Lets Do Yum Cha, Filipino flavours from Hoy Pinoy and freshly made sushi and sashimi from YNJ.
A special guest on Black Caviar, The Great Horse Raceday will be acclaimed chef Victor Liong from popular Melbourne eatery Lee Ho Fook.
Liong’s modern twist on authentic Chinese cuisine will be served in The Chairman’s Club, Panorama Restaurant, Terrace Restaurant and The Atrium.

On the track, the first major sprint race on the Australian calendar for 2017 will take place with the Black Caviar Lightning, which kicks off the Global Sprint Challenge.
The Global Sprint Challenge is a ten-race series that offers a lucrative US$1million bonus to any horse that can win three legs across three different countries, with the winner of the Black Caviar Lighting looking to follow Chautauqua, Black Caviar, Scenic Blast, Miss Andretti and Takeover Target as Lightning winners who have gone on to secure international success.
Recruitment scout Nick Smith from Royal Ascot will be at Flemington in an effort to lure well performed sprinters to their premier carnivals.
The weight-for-age dash looks to be a clash between top sprinters, including Group 1 winners The Quarterback (Robbie Griffiths), Flying Artie (Mick Price) and Terravista (Joe Pride), and rising stars Star Turn (Team Hawkes), Spieth (Bryce Heys) and Supido (Mick Kent).
The international flavour will be further enhanced with strategic alliance race clubs the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Japan Racing Association, Ascot Racecourse and the Singapore Turf Club each represented with a race named after their respective clubs.
The undercard features the C.S. Hayes Stakes and the TAB Vanity, both three-year-old 1400m Group 3 events likely to unearth the key contenders for the Australian Guineas.
The feature race was renamed in honour of Australia’s undefeated sprinting champion in 2013. Racegoers can relive her achievements at the Black Caviar Walk of Fame on the front lawn.
Retired Group 1 winners from Hong Kong and Flemington will come together for racing fans in the Parade of Champions, featuring past heroes of Hong Kong racing in Silent Witness, Bullish Luck and Good Ba Ba, as well as Emirates Melbourne Cup champions Might and Power and Efficient, and the people’s favourite Apache Cat.
Legendary Hong Kong racing figure Tony Cruz will be a special guest of the Victoria Racing Club on Black Caviar, The Great Horse Raceday, where he will reconnect with his past champions Silent Witness and Bullish Luck.
