Report: Sword Dancer winner Annals of Time done for the year

Two-time Grade 1 winner Annals of Time, who was last seen scoring in the Aug. 24 Sword Dancer Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, will not race again this year due to injury, the Daily Racing Form's Dave Grening reported Sunday.

Trainer Chad Brown told DRF the injury isn't necessarily career-ending, with the door open to a 7-year-old campaign.

“He's going to miss everything the rest of the year, so we might as well give him an extended break, and go from the there,” Brown told DRF.

With just eight lifetime starts, Annals of Time is a lightly-raced 6-year-old.
Owned by Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence, the son of Temple City has won five of those eight outings, including the 2016 Hollywood Derby (G1).

Brown has a barn loaded with top turf runners, but he considered Annals of Time to be one of his top contenders for this year's Breeders' Cup Turf following his victory in the 1 1/2-mile Sword Dancer.

"I was really impressed with his race," Brown said after the win. "He tried something new in a three-turn race but he came through.

"[Stablemate] Bricks and Mortar is clearly at the top, but he's proven now that he's one of the top turf colts in his division and can stay a mile and a half which is important," said Brown.

Annals of Time has had two lengthy layoffs in his career, which reportedly stemmed from recurring soft tissue issues. The Sword Dancer victory was his third start after nearly two years on the sidelines.
