Breeders' Cup 2017

Aikenite Makes 2012 Debut in Phoenix

An evenly matched field of 10 sprinters was entered Tuesday morning for Friday’s 160th running of the $175,000 Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix (G3) at six furlongs on the main track. The race, won last year by Hoofit (NZ), is a “Win and You’re In” event for the Breeders’ Cup Xpressbet Sprint (G1) to be run November 3 at Santa Anita.

The Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix is scheduled as the eighth race on Friday’s 10-race card with a 4:49 p.m. (ET) post time. First post time daily for the 17-day Fall Meet is 1:05 p.m.

Carrying top weight of 122 pounds is Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Lonesome Street. Trained by Mike Maker, Lonesome Street won the Commonwealth (G2) here this spring by 2½ lengths going seven furlongs. Javier Castellano has the riding assignment on Lonesome Street, who will break from post position eight.

Also in the field is the winner of 2011 Commonwealth, Dogwood Stable’s Aikenite. Second in this race last year, Aikenite will be making his 2012 debut Friday and will break from the rail under John Velazquez and carrying 120 pounds.

The field for the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix, from the rail out, is as follows: Aikenite (John Velazquez, 120 pounds), Cajun Breeze (Juan Leyva, 120), Night Party (Shane Sellers, 120), Hamiltonian (Rosie Napravnik, 118), Doctor Chit (Ramon Dominguez, 118), Sum of the Parts (Julien Leparoux, 120), Noble’s Promise (David Cohen, 120), Lonesome Street (Javier Castellano, 122), Will’s Wildcat (Calvin Borel, 120) and Laurie’s Rocket (Rajiv Maragh, 120).
