Churchill Downs' September Meet gets into full swing Saturday when the 11-race card finishes with a foursome of stakes races, including two graded events, making up an All Stakes Pick 4 under the Twin Spires. Here are a few longshots to consider, both in the win spot and for your multi-race wagers.
Race 8: $100,000 Open Mind (6 furlongs)
#5 Our Majesty (8-1) has fired exacta shots in 6 of 8 career starts, and she runs well fresh for Ron Moquett. She faced Saturday's favorite, Vertical Oak, in the G3 Miss Preakess in 2017, and was second behind that rival as the betting favorite that day. She figures in the hunt throughout under Corey Lanerie.
#6 Mannerly (5-1) won 4 of her last 8 starts, and she defeated 2-time stakes winner Valadorna in her lone local try at this distance last November. She took down recent G3 Groupie Doll winner and today's rival Champagne Problems at Keeneland on April 27, and I like her tactical speed in a race without much pace.
Race 10: Grade 3 Iroquois (8.5 furlongs)
#9 Manny Wah (8-1) owns ascending pace ratings, and there does not seem to be a ton of early zip in today's paper race. He was second behind a runaway winner in his local debut, and followed that up with a maiden win at Arlington, and a close-up show finish in the Ellis Park Juvenile. He is stabled at Churchill Downs, and he drilled a local bullet for this Aug. 30.
#2 Love My Honey (6-1) overcame a less than ideal start to win her dirt sprint debut as the favorite at Saratoga on July 29, and clear runner-up Into The South returned to graduate by a couple of lengths at that same venue Aug. 26. The fresh $155,000 purchase fired a Saratoga bullet for this Sept. 2, and the Mike Maker trainee figures to stalk lively fractions under Julien Leparoux.
