Adding to the HRN Wiki
What is a wiki?
A wiki is a community driven resource of information, the most popular of which is Wikipedia, the free on-line encyclopedia. The wiki at Horse Racing Nation is a database of horse racing information. Everything from trainer, owner, jockey and horse bios, photos and race starts are capable of being tracked in the database. We also setup an advanced news integration system to track old, current and archived news.
And the best part? It’s all powered by racing fans like you. Horse Racing Nation was designed with the racing fan in mind. Our wiki is designed to view, add, edit and sort through the hundreds of thousands of pieces of information in horse racing. Every single byte of data was added at some point, at sometime, by users like you. We spent months designing and refining tools which allow for quick and easy data entry.
Every piece helps…
Whether you add your favorite horse and race history, link to a Youtube race video, or simply correct an error entered by someone else, you help. Whether you edit the purse of a race fifty years ago, or enter progeny of last year’s leading stallion, you help. Did you go the track this weekend and take any photos? Upload them and you help.
Adding Information
The wiki was strategically designed and tested to allow for seamless data integration. Adding a horse is literally as easy as 1-2-3. You can edit a race in just a few simple steps. Every wiki interface features easy-to-use components.
So what is in the Database?
All of the information, photos, silks and videos on the site have been entered by racing fans. So some areas are relatively complete, and others are untouched. It changes daily, but here's a rough idea of what is in the database:
CURRENT RACING INFORMATION (2009)
- All major race meets (NY, CA, KY, FL, NJ, Woodbine) plus Arlington and some Louisiana (FG, La Downs)
- All Graded Stakes in 2009-2011
HISTORICAL RACING INFORMATION
- Kentucky Derby from 1919 - current + videos for most
- Preakness and Belmont from 1973 - current + most video replays
- All Breeders' Cup races + videos
- Plus:
- Graded Stakes - A good representation of G1 and G2 races from 1999-2008
- Sporadic data on graded races from the 1990's
