Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Where did you get your data from?
Since Horse Racing Nation is a wiki,
our data comes from our users. Much like Wikipedia, all information coming in
and out of our site is submitted, checked and edited by users. If you spot an
error, as a registered member, you can fix it. If you spot some missing
information, feel free to add it. The site is driven by the fans of racing, and
their participation.
How accurate is the data?
Since Horse Racing Nation is a wiki,
our data is not only added by users, but checked and verified as well. While
browsing the site, if someone spots an error, they can fix it on the fly. Our
system was also designed to help minimize errors as much as possible. Type-ahead
controls (the feature that pops-up a list of options while entering data) help
to manage the data. Obviously horse racing has a deep history and we are prone
to error, but by the power of the wiki model, we hope to minimize those
inconsistencies. So, help us out, and fix what’s wrong!
Can I contribute?
Absolutely! Horse Racing Nation is
all about fan participation and interaction. Whether you want to submit a Play
of the Day, add a horse, fix a silk, add a photo, update a race or just comment
on your favorite horse, it all helps!
If I have feedback about the
website, can I submit it?
Yes, of course! We welcome
feedback from all of our visitors. We might even publish your thoughts on
here.
If you would like to share your
thoughts with us, don't hesitate to contact
us!
Is the site free?
The founders of Horse Racing Nation
love the power of free, and everything on our site is free. Adding data,
reviewing data and enjoying data – all free. So, enjoy!
How do I get my blog posted on your
site?
Each day our team surfs the web and
aggregates racing news and blogs to the Horse Racing Nation system. If you
would like to have your blog added to our routine, just contact us with a link
(or RSS feed preferably) and we’ll add you to the rotation.
There are duplicate horses in the
database, what do I do?
With so many races and horses in the
racing, we anticipated on occasion a duplicate horses popping-up in the
database. As a result, we have a tool designed specifically to merge these
horses into one. If you notice one, feel free to let us know, and we’ll correct
it as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, to help avoid duplicates,
when adding horses, people or other entities, please utilize the type-ahead
control, which pops-up with existing names in the database and will link the
data together when selected.
What is the type-ahead control?
When entering data such as names
(horses, people, tracks and stakes) we have designed a menu which will pop-up
below the box with existing entities in the database matching what you’re
adding.
For example, if you’re adding Todd Pletcher, his name will pop-up below as you type it. Rather than typing the rest of his name, you just have to select him from the list. This will ensure all data is properly linked and correct in the system.
