DMR 5 (G2 Hollywood Turf Cup, 12T)

Primary - #9 OVERDUE, #10 United

Secondary - #6 Cleopatra’s Strike, #3 Zestful

Wagers: #9 to win, Quinella 9/3-6-10, Trifecta 9-10/3-6-9-10/3-6-9-10

Analysis: #9 Overdue (5-1) is 2-for-2 since adding blinkers and switching to Mike Smith. The improving 4yo gelding gets a class and distance test today. He is an interesting alternative to the favorites. #10 United (5-2) almost pulled off a 51-1 shocker in the BC Turf (G1). I liked his chances underneath that day, and he ran a bit better than anticipated. Prat sticks with Mandella’s stalker/closer, and his last win was at DMR. He is a solid top three threat. #6 Cleopatra’s Strike (7-2) was also entered in Saturday’s Seabiscuit (G2) at Del Mar, and his connections chose this spot. He was right there in his last four starts, and exits a smart score in the John Henry Turf (G2) at 10f. D’Amato’s fresh gelding projects an outside stalking trip. #3 Zestful (8-1) is a front runner with a nose for the wire, and he can run all day. He will take them as far as he can. The biggest question is turf class. Both of his turf wins were in the starter allowance ranks. He won the restricted Los Al Special at 10f on dirt, and was 2nd in the Marathon (G2) on dirt at 14f Nov. 1.
