I must admit that I have
had a great deal of fun in the Road to the Roses Fantasy league this year. With
only 10 days to go until the Derby I am sitting in second place in my league a
mere 4 points behind the renowned TwinSpires.com handicapper Ed DeRosa
(@EJXD2).
No doubt that my biggest
blunder was leaving Hansen out of my
original stable. That was a decision made due to my stubbornness. If I had only
known that the 2011 Breeders’ Cup
Juvenile would turn into the greatest key race in the history of
handicapping maybe then I would have included him. As I stood in the winner’s circle at Aqueduct after the Gotham Stakes recording Dr. Hansen’s
post race celebratory comments I knew I had messed up big time. I did add
Hansen in the first supplemental draft.
My best decision came last
weekend when I decided to add the two
horses that were allowed in the second
supplemental draft. I sat 34 points behind the leader before the Jerome Stakes (G2) and the Lexington
Stakes (G3). Figuring that I needed to make a move in these two races and that
there were no other horses that I really wanted to add for the Derby, I
selected The Lumber Guy and Stirred Up. Those two finished first
and third in the Jerome, and with power horse designation and higher points for
the grade two race, they earned me 30 points.
The AndyScoggin Stable will head in to the Derby with 9 or 10 horses
making the field of 20. In
addition my jockey choices of Javier
Castellano and Julien Leparoux
are in the field as are both of my trainers, Todd Pletcher and Michael
Matz. The Derby obviously offers the most points so a strong showing could
win the league for me. Check out the chart of my stable and let me know which
horses that you think I should designate as power horses. The names that are in
color have earned their way into the field.
