Accelerate vs. Justify: 'The Battle at the Beach'

November 21, 2018 09:57am
The NTRA, in announcing that tickets are on sale for the 48th Eclipse Awards on Jan. 24 at Gulfstream Park, quipped that racing fans and industry types should "get your ringside seat."

And that makes sense after seeing the accompanying art by cartoonist Remi Belloq, the brother-in-law of Martine Belloq, the trainer who suffered serious burns attempting to save her horses last year in the wildfires at the San Luis Rey Downs Training Center.

Remi Belloq laid out a "Tale of the Tape" in a boxing-style cartoon pitting Accelerate ("The Chestnut Assasin") against Justify ("Kid Knockout"). This prize fight, of course, determines Horse of the Year, as voted on by representatives of the NTRA, Daily Racing Form and National Turf Writers and Broadcasters.

Regardless of which side you're taking, and amid some of the more feisty discourse, it's nice to see someone having fun with the championship debate.
