This week on HorseCenter, your hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman handicap a field of 10 Kentucky Derby hopefuls, including last year's juvenile champion Forte, in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park. Your hosts also analyze an interesting field set for the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) led by Defunded.
The Fountain of Youth presents a handicapping decision involving the top two choices in Forte and Blazing Sevens, who are Grade 1 winners but have not run since the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in November. If the long layoff is a concern, there are recent stakes winners such as Rocket Can and General Jim to consider.
The Santa Anita Handicap drew a field of 11 from the older male handicap division with a wide-open field that must handle the classic 10-furlong distance. In the field are the second-, third- and fifth-place finishers from the Pegasus World Cup (G1).
Big fields and plenty of graded-stakes races are in the cards in California and Florida. Good luck this weekend and, as always, thanks for watching the show.
