This week on HorseCenter, your hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman take an early look at many of the big names expected to run in the Belmont Racing Festival in New York. Forte and National Treasure in the 2023 Belmont Stakes and Cody's Wish and Elite Power in the Met Mile are expected headliners. The festival includes 15 graded stakes, nine of which are Grade 1s.
Champion Forte, who was forced to miss the first two legs of the Triple Crown, will face off against Preakness winner National Treasure in the Belmont Stakes, which is the featured race of the weekend. A handful of horses from the Kentucky Derby are probable starters in the final leg of the Triple Crown.
The Met Mile (G1) will have a star-studded field led by a pair of older horses from the barn of Hall of Famer Bill Mott. Champion sprinter Elite Power, winner of six races in a row, will meet his stablemate Cody’s Wish, who won his last five starts.
The next two editions of HorseCenter will feature the big races at Belmont Park from June 8 to 10. Matt and Brian hope you will join them then and, as always, thanks for watching the show.
