HorseCenter: Arlington Million, Beverly D. analysis and picks

This week on HorseCenter, your hosts Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman look back at Life Is Good's win in the Grade 1 Whitney before handicapping the Arlington Million (G1) and Grade 1 Beverly D. from Churchill Downs (G1).

In the aftermath of the closure of Arlington Park, Churchill Downs has opted to run two of the turf stakes that were signature races at the Chicago track. The Arlington Million will be run at the shortened distance of nine furlongs on the newly renovated turf course. The Million attracted a field of nine turf horses led by Smooth Like Strait in what figures to be a wide-open betting affair.

The Beverly D. drew only a field of five with the Chad Brown runner Rougir expected to be the favorite. Lily Pond, who is the only European horse in either field, ships to Kentucky from Ireland for Aidan O’Brien. In the past, these races attracted a much larger number of international runners. (Read more about Lily Pond here.)

Matt and Brian analyze both fields and offer their picks for the pair of Grade 1s. Good luck if you are going to bet on the special one-day event at Churchill Downs and, as always, thanks for watching the show or listening to our podcast.
