Wednesday's Best Bet: Zumurudee can go the distance at Keeneland

April 16, 2019 07:15pm

Wednesday’s eighth race from Keeneland is an $83,000 allowance event for 4-year-olds and up traveling a mile and a half on the turf course (Post Time - 4:57 p.m. ET).

#4 ZUMURUDEE (6-1) had a string of five turf route trifecta finishes snapped in wide 10th of 14 from post 10 in a shorter event at Fair Grounds Feb. 16. The consistent gelding hit the board in two of three local turf outings and can travel at least a mile and a quarter.

#1 Krewe Chief (5-1) removes blinkers and returns to turf after a pair of unplaced efforts vs. graded dirt routers. Jose Ortiz rode him to a pair of place finishes last year, and he hit the board in both turf routes for the Mike Maker barn last year.

#7 Take That for Data (8-1) put blinkers back on and captured an allowance turf route at Fair Grounds March 5. That last win was at nine furlongs, and we will see how far he wants to go in this spot. Brad Cox is sending out live runners at Keeneland and he figures to stalk the pace.

#8 Neepawa (3-1) went all the way on yielding ground at this distance in the Breeders’ Stakes last summer at Woodbine. He found trouble in his needed flat mile return at Gulfstream and can go better in this marathon.

#12 Sarrasin (7-2) is a fragile 7-year-old with only twelve starts. He moved to the Christophe Clement barn and finished a troubled 4th at Tampa Bay March 24. His last win was at this distance at Longchamp but that was way back in 2015.
