Tuesday's Best Bet: Bad Little Beast's good enough at Presque Isle

September 09, 2019 09:01pm

Tuesday’s 5th race from Presque Isle Downs is an optional claiming event for 2-year-olds dashing six furlongs on the all-weather surface (Post Time 7:05 p.m. ET).

#6 BAD LITTLE BEAST (5-2) added Lasix and blinkers in his first start after a three-plus month layoff Sept. 3, and he ran a much-improved race in his maiden victory at this course/distance that day. He could easily click right back for Nathan Vickers and Kevin Rice.

#5 New York Groove (2-1) is probably the one to beat. He rallied to break his maiden in his local career debut Aug. 14, and he was pulling away at the end of that 5 1/2-furlong affair. The added distance helps, and the $95,000 Keeneland sales grad might make it two straight.

#1 Bear Creek (10-1) adds blinkers and should show speed from the rail. He ran well in both local sprints but needs to run faster to threaten my top pair.

#2 Boat Over the Hill (4-1) switches surfaces for Jaime Ness, and nine of his last 16 dirt/all-weather runners finished in the top three. Pablo Morales is a sharp local rider, and I would not be surprised to see this one handle new footing.

Wagers:
