Thursday's Best Bet: Thorny Tale a sharp repeat threat at Saratoga

Thursday’s 5th race from Saratoga is an optional claiming event for New York-bred 3-year-olds and up dashing six furlongs on the main track (Post Time 3:28 p.m. ET).

#7 THORNY TALE (7-2) returned with a sharp victory in the Belmont slop June 6. He was 0-for-4 on wet tracks in 2018-19, so it is possible that he has improved since his freshman and sophomore seasons. He drew outside the other speed and Castellano has been winning races with Weaver recently.

#4 Big Engine (8-1) always runs his race on fast dirt, and he can make an impact in the lane if he is ready to go in his first start in more than six months. He rallied for the place behind #5 Dark Money (5-2) Jan. 9, and the latter returned with a sharp prominent throughout score at Belmont June 6.

#8 The Caretaker (3-1) likes this oval but is only 1-for-8 with seven minor awards at this distance. I like him more underneath.
