Thursday's Best Bet: South Africa works out winning trip at Aqueduct

Thursday’s 7th race from Aqueduct is an optional claiming event for New York-bred 4-year-olds and up dashing six furlongs on the main track (Post Time 4:25 p.m. ET).

#3 SOUTH AFRICA (7-2) was part of the exacta in his last five starts and he won two of those races. His early-pressing versatility might allow him to work out the right tactical trip behind likely front runners #1 Dark Money (5-2) and #6 Steam Engine (3-1). His winning rider Kendrick Carmouche strings along and he might be able to move forward in his second start after a short layoff.

#4 Blindwillie McTell (6-1) drops out of the open entry level allowance ranks and he is entered for the $40k claiming tag. All three of his career wins were in the New York-bred stakes ranks, and two of those victories were at Aqueduct under Thursday’s pilot Dylan Davis.

#5 Seven Lilies (4-1) finished strongly from off the pace in a 19-1 upset victory over South Africa Jan. 30. He has won seven times overall but has never scored in back-to-back races.
