Thursday's Best Bet: Set Piece the one to beat in Prairie Bayou

Thursday’s 5th race from Turfway Park is the Prairie Bayou Stakes for 3-year-olds and up traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the all-weather surface (Post Time 5:14 p.m. ET).

#11 SET PIECE (5-2) uncorked a strong stretch run in a slow early/fast late local victory vs. flat mile optional claimers as the favorite Dec. 3. He added blinkers that day and is now 4-for-4 on all-weather ground.

#7 Skywire (3-1) captured a pair of Grade 2 routes at Woodbine this year. He can stalk or close and he fired exacta shots in all seven starts at this distance.

#1 Marzo (6-1) has been on a steady graded turf route diet and he captured the Sycamore (G3) at Keeneland in 2019. His new rider Rafael Bejarano should have options from the inside post, and he will probably end up stalking the pace and saving all the ground.

AE #13 Visitant (5-1) is a solid contender if he gets in from the also-eligible list. He is 4-for-5 with a 2nd on all-weather ground, and he added blinkers and cruised to an easy local optional claiming victory Dec. 12.

AE #14 Big Agenda (6-1) moved to the Mike Maker barn and won back-to-back optional claiming turf routes in Kentucky, and jumped into the stakes ranks, stalked the pace, and weakened to 6th place in the Sycamore (G3) Oct. 15.

Wagers:

#11 to win
