Thursday's Best Bet: Ohtani set to graduate at Santa Anita Park

January 10, 2019 12:00pm
Thursday’s fifth race from Santa Anita Park is a $50,000 maiden claiming event for 3-year-olds dashing six and one-half furlongs on the main track (Post Time - 5:32 p.m. ET).

#8 Ohtani (5-1) had a troubled start and was up for the show in his Del Mar debut Nov. 24 and the clear runner-up was a next-out winner. Bill Spawr is very good with 31-60 day layoff runners.

#3 Drink (5-2) was 4th in his debut in the slop at Los Alamitos. He adds blinkers and David Hofmans saddled two maiden winners on Sunday. He figures to show speed under Drayden Van Dyke.

#7 Dyf (5-1) is a first time gelding dropping in class, switching surfaces, and adding blinkers. Flavien Prat wins races with +ROI layoff trainer Leonard Powell.

#5 Gran Martillo (5-1) finished an okay 3rd in his Los Alamitos bow vs. this kind Dec. 13. He removes blinkers and Ruben Fuentes shows a +ROI with Paul Aguirre.

#2 Nice Work (3-1) might improve second time out on the drop and surface switch for John Sadler.
