Thursday's Best Bet: Midnight Tea Time a trifecta threat in Sycamore

Thursday’s 8th race from Keeneland is the Grade 3 Sycamore for 3-year-olds and up traveling a mile and a half on the turf course (Post Time 4:57 p.m. ET).

#2 MIDNIGHT TEA TIME (8-1) was right there with #4 Nakamura (7-2) in an optional claiming turf affair at Saratoga Aug. 17 (eleven furlongs), and he exits a flat mile nose victory over purse nibbler Combatant at Kentucky Downs. I am not thrilled with his 2-for-15 turf record (11 minor awards), but I do like the price. He graduated in a local turf route last year and projects a stalking trip.

#6 Postulation (7-2) has been a quality turf marathon performer for quite some time. He ran well in both stakes starts this year and figures to stalk the pace.

#5 Focus Group (8-5) reconnects with his winning rider Joe Ortiz and will be plugging away in the lane. He faced grade one or grade two foes in his last six starts, and won the Pan American (G2) at this distance March 30. He won a local entry level affair at this course/distance last year. He has absolutely no speed and the price figures to be wrong.
