Thursday's Best Bet: Listing too fleet for rivals in Quick Call Stakes

July 11, 2019 10:21am

Thursday’s ninth race from Saratoga is the Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes for 3-year-olds dashing five and one-half furlongs on the turf course (Post Time 5:51 p.m. ET).

#4 LISTING (4-1) turned back and was excellent in the Desert Code Stakes at five furlongs on the turf course at Santa Anita June 9. That was his third strong effort from as many turf sprint tries, and today’s rider Joel Rosario got to know him in a show finish in the Echo Eddie Stakes April 6. I like his early-pressing versatility.

#2 Elecktronic (10-1) should like this abbreviated journey for Linda Rice. The NY-bred adds blinkers and won a couple of six panel turf sprints at Belmont earlier this year. Seven furlongs was out of his reach last time.

#6 Call Paul (5-2) has been more aggressive since adding blinkers May 12, and he dusted PA-bred stakes foes on dirt June 1. He fired trifecta shots in all nine dirt outings, and Jason Servis is very good with his first turf starters. I am not thrilled with his turf pedigree, and he probably won't offer much value.

#1 Abyssinian (7-2) has good early speed and always finishes in the top three. She reconnects with her winning rider John Velazquez.

#3 Gladiator King (8-1) is a quality turf sprinter, and he will keep the pace honest.

#10 Sombeyay (6-1) is a versatile dirt sprinter trying turf for Todd Pletcher. Three of his last four works were on turf.
