Sunday's Best Bet: Maroon Maniac a sound choice at Monmouth

#3 MAROON MANIAC (4-1) is lightly raced sophomore for quality trainer Jonathan Thomas, and Joe Bravo has been clicking with this outfit recently. He chased inside and was second best in his flat mile turf bow at Tampa Bay, and he came back with a strong front running maiden win at that same venue in a race originally scheduled for turf second time out. Last time at Saratoga, he was far behind strong fractions and never got seriously involved. The race shape should be more to his liking in this spot, and he figures right there throughout if he improves at all.

#7 Assiduously (7-2) improved his speed ratings in all four starts for Chad Brown, and he added blinkers, set the pace, and held 3rd in a similar nine furlong affair at Belmont Park July 9. He reunites with his winning rider Antonio Gallardo.

#1 Singapore Flash (5-1) has been in fine form all year and figures to save ground stalking the pace. Hector Diaz Jr. wins races with Michael Stidham and he is not out of this.

#2 Tree Shaker (9-2) hit the board in his two local turf routes and earned decent numbers in both of those races. The 7-year-old gelding will probably chase the pace and looks like a bigger threat underneath.
