No. 7 LADY T (3-1) was an underachiever in sprints but you just knew she had more in the tank. They stretched her out May 15 and that was the ticket. She pressed fast early fractions, took over, and won for fun at one mile that day. John Shirreffs would not be running her here if she did not have a realistic chance. He has very good stats with his recent grads trying winners for the first time, and he shows a profit in the graded ranks. She figures to press while out in the clear under her winning pilot Victor Espinoza.
No. 1 Desert Dawn (5-2) upset Adare Manor in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2) and proved that was no fluke when finishing a solid 3rd in the Kentucky Oaks (G1). Umberto Rispoli sticks with Phil D’Amato’s improving filly. She won the SA Oaks from the inside post. Rispoli worked his way outside and got her into a nice stalking rhythm that day. Look for him to try to do the same thing in this spot.
No. 2 Ganadora (4-1) dusted Lady T in her sprint bow Feb. 26, and pressed from 2nd and was all out to win as the strong favorite April 10. She stretches out after two sprints and might try to make the early lead for the productive Cedillo/McCarthy team.
No. 4 Kirstenbosch (6-1) ran well in the Angels Flight at seven panels last time. There was no early pace in that compact field and she ran on nicely for the place. She graduated in a turf route so the added distance of this race is no problem. John Sadler shows a profit sprint/route and I think she can get a piece of this.
