Sunday's Best Bet: Desert Oasis seeks stakes glory in Golden Poppy

Sunday’s 7th race from Golden Gate Fields is the $75,000 Golden Poppy Stakes for fillies and mares traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the turf course (Post Time 7:03 p.m. ET).

#3 DESERT OASIS (6-1) had her two-race win streak snapped in a rallying runner-up finish May 16. Dogtag looked good beating her last time, and that one captured two turf route stakes races on the East Coast when she was trained by Chad Brown. Richard Mandella trains her now, and she sure looks like she is headed back to the stakes ranks. If Dogtag was in this race, she would be the favorite. Desert Oasis was not disgraced last time, and this looks like a great spot to pick up a stakes victory. I doubt the morning line holds up.

#4 Ziarah (3-1) won her last three local all-weather routes, and she has struck twice on the turf course at Golden Gate. She projects a stalking trip and must be respected in her current form.

#1 Meal Ticket (4-1) is a Southern California shipper with a two-for-two record at this distance. Her recent form is not great, but she is classy enough to take this under Kent Desormeaux.

#6 Blue Diva (7-2) lures Juan Hernandez away from likely pacesetter #2 Morning Cyn (9-2). Hernandez was aboard for her last three wins, and the surface switcher has won on turf before.

#8 Sloane Garden (8-1) flew home in a slow early/fast late entry level affair at this course/distance May 23. This is a class test.
