Saturday's Best Bet: Byself should be the right price in La Verdad

January 04, 2019 08:50pm
Saturday's eighth race from Aqueduct is the $100,000 La Verdad Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares dashing seven furlongs on the main track (Post Time - 3:59 p.m. ET).

#8 BYSELF (6-1) returned from a short layoff and finished an OK second behind Pauseforthecause in her local prep for this on Dec. 8. She has never finished out of the exacta on dirt and was clearly second best to Satisfy on Sept. 7.

#10 Pauseforthecause (7-2) won three of her last four dirt starts and was less than a length behind Satisfy on Oct. 20. An outside stalking trip is expected.

#7 Sunset Ridge (6-1) dusted New York-bred foes in her first four outings and hit the board against open company in her last pair. The Chad Brown runner romped in her lone try at this distance and figures to stalk the pace in her third start after a layoff.

#3 Kathryn the Wise (9-2) is also conditioned by Brown. The fragile 6-year-old mare looked great in her first three starts and set the pace and weakened in her last pair. She did run better on Nov. 29 (clearly second best) and might be rounding back into top form. She was the strong favorite in her previous five starts and will probably take plenty of win action once again. She looms a pace factor at the very least under Manny Franco.

Morning line favorite #9 Satisfy (5-2) fired exacta shots in all seven outings and is a nose shy of five straight wins. She is expected to scratch due to a filling in her ankle.

The Plays:

#8 to win

Exacta 8/3-7-10

Exacta 3-7-10/8
