Monday's Best Bet: Moraz on solid ground at Santa Anita

Monday’s 10th race from Santa Anita Park is an optional claiming event for fillies and mares traveling one mile on the main track (Post Time 8:42 p.m. EDT).

#6 MORAZ (5-2) exits a close show finish at one mile on turf but her speed rating dipped that day. She stalked and romped in her maiden win at this course/distance Jan. 8, and hit the board in three of four graded dirt routes after that. Michael McCarthy has good stats turf/dirt and she can move up second after a layoff. She always finishes in the top three with Umberto Rispoli in the saddle.

#9 Velvet Slippers (2-1) ran well in both dirt route attempts including a head defeat in the Dark Mirage Stakes at Los Alamitos Sept. 19. Flavien Prat wins races with Bob Baffert and she will probably stalk wide.

#1 Stella Noir (6-1) exits a decent runner-up finish in the Lucky Spell Stakes at Los Al. She stretches out in her third start after a layoff and Keith Desormeaux shows a profit with his sprint/route starters. I am expecting a ground saving tactical trip under Edwin Maldonado.

#4 Nice Ice (5-1) exits a romping flat mile wire job vs. state bred optional claiming foes at Los Al, and that was her first start after the Miller claim. She is probably the one to catch again.
