Monday's Best Bet: Lanier turns back in Karl Boyes Memorial Stakes

June 16, 2019 08:27pm

Monday’s sixth race from Presque Isle Downs is the $100,000 Karl Boyes Memorial Stakes for 3-year-olds and up dashing five and one-half furlongs on the all-weather surface (Post Time 7:30 p.m. ET).

#5 LANIER (5-2) is a razor sharp 7-year-old gelding exiting a big win in the Hanshin Cup (G3) at Arlington (runner-up next-out winner). He is a capable sprinter as well and I like his tactical speed.

#1 Wellabled (9-5) exits a romping five panel win in his Arlington return. The inside speed is 1-for-1 at Presque Isle and 2-for-2 at this distance.

#6 Oldies But Goodies (5-1) just failed to last in a turf sprint at Laurel June 2. He should show speed in his third start after a layoff.

#2 Shekky Shebaz (12-1) might be fitter in his second start after a long layoff. His winning rider Pablo Morales stays put, and he should make his presence felt throughout.

#5 to win
