Monday's Best Bet: King's Ovation brings down the house

Monday’s 5th race from Indiana Grand is an optional claiming event for three-year-olds and up traveling one mile on the main track (Post Time 4:29 p.m. EDT).

No. 2 KING’S OVATION (4-1) battled on the pace and faded in a sophomore stakes route at Churchill Downs Sept. 25, and that race was just too far for him. He was 2nd to He’smyhoneybadger in a flat mile event at Ellis Park Aug. 28, and that one captured the Perryville Stakes at Keeneland Oct. 23. He easily won a local race at this distance under Monday’s rider DeShawn Parker June 14, and he could easily bounce back in his third start after a layoff. He goes back on lasix and this is his first start vs. older rivals.

No. 1 Heirloom Kitten (8-1) is confidently up in price in his first start after the Contreras claim, and he is as fast as any of the top contenders on his best day. He has struck three times at one mile and figures to attend the pace from the rail.

No. 3 Dean Martini (5-2) might be vulnerable on the win end. The 2-for-20 gelding has not won in quite some time and his recent form is not great. He is 0-for-4 at this distance as well.

No. 4 Mr. Quality (9-2) makes his first start in more than a year and might need the outing. He ran well in both local attempts last year and will probably try to get involved early.

No. 6 Ego (2-1) exits a game head victory in the local mud, and that race was originally scheduled for turf. He runs well locally but is 0-for-5 at one mile.
