Monday's Best Bet: Hootie in the right spot at Del Mar

Monday’s 6th race from Del Mar is a $25,000 claiming event for 3-year-olds and up traveling one mile on the turf course (Post Time 7:30 p.m. ET).

I have mentioned multiple times that #3 HOOTIE (7-2) is tough to ride, but Umberto Rispoli has booted him home twice, and he seems realistically spotted. He has started six times at Del Mar with only a show finish to his name, but he has won twice since the last time he raced here. He was stuck in the outside box last time, and I like the positive post switch for sharp third after a layoff trainer Michael McCarthy.

#11 Worthy Turk (6-1) reunites with winning rider Flavien Prat. He has struck twice at one mile and once at Del Mar. The stalker fits with these if he can work out a trip from an outer post.

#13 French Getaway (3-1) is back in a claimer and he won his last two tagged turf routes, and Smith booted him home in one of those races. He has stuck twice at Del Mar but is 0-for-2 at this distance. He needs racing luck from a tough post.

#5 Ocean Fury (4-1) is a first time gelding returning to turf. He won three turf races last year, including a starter allowance affair at this course and distance. He has not picked up his feet since a solid show finish in the local Let It Ride Stakes last fall.

#3 to win
