Monday's Best Bet: Fast Scene quick off the blocks in Lady Erie

Monday’s 5th race from Presque Isle Downs is the $75,000 Lady Erie Stakes for 3-year-old fillies dashing six furlongs on the all-weather surface (Post Time 6:25 p.m. ET).

#1 FAST SCENE (5-1) is the inside speed. She easily went all the way in both all-weather sprints at Woodbine last year, and one of those was a stakes race. She won a turf sprint stakes affair at that same venue in 2019, and placed in a dirt sprint stakes last time. She showed some running style versatility in her two starts this year, but you have to think that they will be sending from the rail post in this event. Her new rider Scott Spieth is enjoying a productive meet.

#2 Mom’s Red Lipstick (8-1) exits a sharp late running flat mile turf win at Arlington. She fired from off the pace in all three synthetic sprint attempts, and quality local rider Pablo Morales takes the call.

#4 Caravel (6-1) is interesting on the surface switch after back-to-back turf sprint wins to begin her career at Penn National. She broke slow and went last-to-first in her bow, and showed speed from an inner post and kept on going second time out.

#9 Artie’s Princess (6-1) owns early-pressing versatility and is back on preferred all-weather footing. She was the beaten favorite in the grassy Coronation Cup at Saratoga last time. She is 3-for-4 with a 2nd in synthetic sprints at Woodbine. An outside stalking trip is expected. Her stablemate #7 Owlette (3-1) turns back in distance, and she is 4-for-4 in all-weather sprints and 2-for-2 at six panels.

#8 French Rose (8-1) hit the board in her last three claiming dirt sprints in Kentucky. She graduated in her synthetic sprint bow at Golden Gate and did earn improved numbers in her last pair. A minor award is possible.

#3 Bucky’s Drama (12-1) should keep the pace honest. This is her first start on synthetic ground.

#6 Twila Mae (20-1) is 0-for-10 with four show finishes on all-weather ground. She will try to rally for a minor award.

#5 L. A. Star (15-1) was claimed out of her last turf start for $15,000. She was far back in her lone synthetic sprint attempt and seems up against it.
