Friday’s 8th race from Santa Anita Park is a $50,000 maiden claiming event for California-bred three-year-olds and up dashing six furlongs on the main track (Post Time 7:54 p.m. ET).
#8 REVISIONIST (6-1) broke tardily from an inner post, moved up while riding the rail, and missed the show by a half-length in a better than appears dirt sprint bow May 22. They paid an above average $44k for the son of Tamarando and dam has produced seven winners from ten starters. Juan Hernandez rides back and Craig Lewis has good stats with second timers, and he had a decent local workout June 3. He can move forward second time out.
#9 Active Account (9-5) fired a local gate bullet for this May 27 and dam’s other three starters won. Competent, low profile trainer Dean Pederson can strike with a first time starter and the gelded son of Clubhouse Ride could easily hit the ground running under Tiago Pereira.
#1 Head for Business (5-2) drops into a maiden claimer for the first time and switches to dirt. He was forwardly placed before weakening in both turf sprints, and he removes blinkers and should make his presence felt throughout if he handles dirt for Kent Desormeaux and Bob Hess Jr.
#4 Hello Handsome (4-1) stalked fast fractions from the outside post before retreating to last in his turf sprint bow May 23. Mike Puype is very good with special weight droppers and dam’s other starter won.
#7 The Roan Ranger (6-1) exits an improved runner-up finish in a $30k affair under apprentice Cesar Ortega. This is not a strong race and he has the speed to establish a forward position.
