Friday's Best Bet: Last Promise Kept a late threat in Kathryn Crosby

November 08, 2018 09:06pm

Friday’s seventh race from Del Mar is the Kathryn Crosby Stakes for fillies and mares traveling one mile on the turf course.

#11 LAST PROMISE KEPT (5-1) exits a willing 3rd in the One Dreamer at Kentucky Downs (4 next out winners). Drayden Van Dyke has ridden her once, and she easily graduated that day. Look for her late.

#4 Excellent Sunset (8-1) was right there in all three flat mile turf starts this year. She won as the favorite in an entry level affair at Saratoga Sept. 2, and she missed by a neck as the even money favorite at Keeneland last time. She shows up in the low profile Anna Meah (former Baltas assistant) barn, and her first two starters ran okay without winning.

#7 Way to Versailles (7-2) ended up a head behind Quebec in the Swingtime Stakes last time. The consistent filly is versatile and might move up in her second start in California for Flavien Prat and Peter Miller.

#6 Quebec (9-2) is in good form for Richard Baltas, and she beat optional claiming foes at this course/distance Aug. 19. Rafael Bejarano got to know her in a decent place finish at Santa Anita Oct. 7.

#8 Tonahutu (6-1) was right there late in the aforementioned Swingtime. She needs pace help and ran well in all three local turf starts.

#10 Sweet Charity (6-1) runs well fresh for John Sadler, and Mike Smith has options with the versatile sort.

#11 to win

Quinella 4-11

Exacta 6-7/4-11

Trifecta 4-11/4-6-7-11/4-6-7-8-10-11
