Friday's Best Bet: Flat Calm can storm home at Aqueduct

December 07, 2018 10:50am

Friday’s sixth race from Aqueduct is an optional claiming event for New York-bred fillies and mares dashing six furlongs on the main track (Post Time - 2:47 p.m. ET).

#3 FLAT CALM (7-2) stalked, took the lead, and ended up a clear 2nd behind betting favorite Held Accountable in a similar flat mile affair at Belmont Oct. 25 (blinkers off), and the aforementioned winner returned to score again as the chalk Nov. 23. My versatile top choice cuts back in distance and she earned her best number in a front running victory at 6.5 furlongs Sept. 21. She figures to stalk lively fractions in her third start after a layoff, and today’s rider Junior Alvarado was aboard for her romping maiden win at Aqueduct March 30.

#7 Fair Regis (6-1) does some of her best work at this distance and she might move forward 3rd off the shelf. She has won here before and will likely sit back and make a late run.

#5 Shimmering Moon (5-1) is now trained by Linda Rice and she shows a +ROI with new additions to her barn. She defeated similar course-distance foes last fall (off the turf) and projects a stalking trip today.
