Friday's Best Bet: Electric Forest stands out in Doubledogdare Stakes

April 19, 2019 10:23am

Friday’s ninth race from Keeneland is the Grade 3, $100,000 Doubledogdare Stakes for fillies and mares traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the main track (Post Time - 5:30 p.m. ET).

#3 ELECTRIC FOREST (4-1) is lightly raced with upside for Chad Brown, and I thought she ran fine in a runner-up finish in the slop when last seen December 2018 (G3 Rampart). She graduated in her local sprint bow last spring and is bred to go this far.

#8 Golden Award (4-1) won her last three starts for Bill Mott and drilled a bullet for this April 13. She projects another stalking trip under Tyler Gaffalione and must not lose too much ground from an outer post.

#1 Jala Jala (6-1) stretches back out and is interesting if she fires away from Gulfstream Park. She earned quality numbers in Florida December 2018 and Feb. 16.

#5 Moonlit Garden (12-1) owns early-pressing versatility and might be able to spice up the exotics. She went all the way in a local allowance race at this trip last spring and finished in the top three in seven of eight starts at this distance Jose Ortiz rides her well but he chose Electric Forest (Joel Rosario ends up here).

#6 La Force (7-2) ships in from Santa Anita and might be able to hit the board. She has not won since February 2018 but did land the place in three straight grade one routes in California last year. Drayden Van Dyke stays put.

#7 Go Google Yourself (10-1) is a very good performer on dirt and earned her best number yet in a flat mile win over Wonder Gadot at Oaklawn March 8. She rallied to win at this course/distance last spring and gets tested for class.

#4 Promise of Spring (15-1) finished in front of Moonlit Garden Feb. 18.

#9 Eqho (30-1) is an okay late runner exiting a runner-up finish on all-weather ground in the Latonia Stakes at Turfway. She handles dirt but will probably have to run the race of her life to earn even a minor award.

#2 Blue Prize (5-2) looked like the class of the field. She won four dirt route stakes races last year including the Spinster (G1) at Keeneland. But she will scratch and run in the La Troienne (G1) at Churchill on May 3 instead.
