Friday's Best Bet: Beach View ready for stakes win in San Luis Rey

Friday’s seventh race from Santa Anita Park is San Luis Rey Stakes (G2) for 4-year-olds traveling a mile and a half on the turf course (Post Time - 7:00 p.m. ET).

#4 BEACH VIEW (5-2) is a quality turf router vs. this kind and he was a troubled 3rd in the Hollywood Turf Cup (G2) in his lone start at this distance.

#1 Epical (2-1) is the one to beat after back-to-back front running wins vs. optional claimers and a rallying place finish in the San Marcos (G2). He might not look back if able to control the pace.

#5 Marckie’s Water (8-1) took money and flopped in the Unusual Heat Turf Classic vs. CA-breds Jan. 26. He was only a neck behind Beach View in the Hollywood Turf Cup (G2) and has won three times at Santa Anita.

#2 Risky Proposition (5-1) beat older optional claimers and earned a better number in his first start this year in a local one mile turf affair Feb 17. He rallied for the place and finished in front of Epical at a mile and an eighth last fall. His conditioner Bill Spawr also saddles #3 Unapologetic (8-1), and the latter owns tactical speed and won at this course/distance last June. He has yet to make a dent in the stakes ranks.

I will try to beat #6 Ashleyluvssugar (5-2). The 8-year-old gelding has not won since 2017 and has now dropped nine straight (3 runner-up finishes).
