Friday's Best Bet: Alice Marble seeks good luck in Irish O'Brien

Friday’s sixth race at Santa Anita is a the $100,000 Irish O'Brien Stakes for California-bred fillies and mares dashing 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course. The scheduled post time is 6:36 p.m. EDT.

Grazen sired four of the six entrants in this race including No. 2 Alice Marble (8-5). My top choice exits a dirt sprint stakes win in the Spring Fever. She captured the Wishing Well and Fran’s Valentine Stakes on turf last year, and she looks like a solid threat for Flavien Prat and Phil D’Amato.

No. 3 Big Summer (7-5) defeated Alice Marble at this course and distance in the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf Sprint on Jan. 7. She missed by a neck in the Wishing Well last time, and she should be finishing under Joe Bravo.

No. 5 Taming the Tigress (5-1) is a Smiling Tiger mare exiting a runner-up finish in the Spring Fever. She handles turf and should offer value under Umberto Rispoli.

No. 4 Shocking Grey (4-1) rallied from off the pace to graduate on Jan. 13, and clicked right back from off the pace on Jan. 28.  Both of those races were at one mile, and the improving Grazen filly will try to get involved late.
