Well he did sire another Triple Crown winner
The older male division is definitely deep - one horse you didn't mention was Ultimate Eagle. I'm waiting eagerly for him to return to racing, though I've heard he'll be on the turf to avoid GoD (which is probably a wise move, though he might have to contend with Acclamation instead). He's a monster, even if he is one-dimensional. I think if Acclamation has the kind of year he had last year and adds a BC win to it, he could easily end up with HOTY. Really thought you could make a solid case for him deserving it last year with his 2011 resume, but I think the lack of a BC run compromised his chances.
And then proceed to return to being an average-at-best horse at the end of the Saratoga meet.
Yeah, Office Queen fits.
As for the name of the colt, I'm spreading "Caprido" everywhere I can. Think it fits in with the feel of the horses the Mosses have named in honor of Sting and/or The Police, and it was part of one of the rejected names for the album Zenyatta was named after. Giacomo, Tiago, Zenyatta, Caprido... I think it fits =) (And if they don't use it, I will someday haha)
I do that as well. I love names, and words in general really. I have a massive list of names for horses (or bands, or anything else I can think of) on my computer.
Oh, and how about Hymn Book to add to the list of prospective top-notch geldings? Would love to see that 6-year-old keep improving and stay at the top of the class for McGaughey. I've liked him for a while but he seems to be coming into his own at last.
Could be the best since Lava Man, but I am so biased toward Better Talk Now that I'm probably ineligible. I don't think I'll ever love a racehorse as much as I love that old gelding. Of course, that's because he was "THE horse" for me - the one who got me into racing when the most beautiful black horse I'd ever seen won the 2004 Breeders' Cup. This sport needs more great geldings that stick around and build fan bases. I don't think he was ever as popular as a horse like Lava Man, but to me Brass Hat was another one of those geldings that just stole my heart. The old, classy type that doesn't always win but always gives an honest account of himself. Evening Attire also comes to mind. Right now, I'll say Game on Dude is the best since Lava Man, but it'll take a lot to out-do that. Well Armed was a terrific horse on his day, also, but I'll put GOD above him based on consistency.
