California Chrome is not a smart bet Saturday !
With all due respect lets not forget that he comes from a rather weak bloodline nor the fact that he proved to the World he was not Triple Crown material. If winning the Penn Derby was as easy as most horse players think why did Handsome Mike upset Alpha last year with a simple front running effort?
I have a completely different approach . A real gambler will take this opportunity to bet against CC, or Bayern winning . I'm sure all of you already have $ in your pocket so if you want to win $$$$$$$$$$$$$ the only bet is to leave them out . If it doesn't work out , so what ? I'm not interested in .20 or .40 cents on the dollar .
Great Pedigree , Smart Kentucky Owners, Top Local Trainer, and a Excellent Gulfstream Jockey . What we witnessed here was the morning line and post time favorite exiting from a difficult 12 shute to display a Classic performance, breaking outside , sneaking into a rail position, then moving outside the heavily bet 2nd choice and chasing him down to win by a length and a 1/2 .
He is no Mike Smith , thats for sure.
Although CC is just about everyone's pick to revive interest in the sport of kings we mustn't take anything for granted ahead of any big race, be hopeful but never confident, as there are 100 ways for your horse to lose and only one way to win , its called racing luck !
I think Google Chrome has a better chance than California Chrome but what do I know ?
Is it just me or do any other gamblers get irked when the camera only follows the winner at every track ? Sometimes I have the winner on top of 6-8 horses in the super and the camera only follows the winner and keeps following the winner past the finish line and most of the way back . Unless you are at the track you dont get to know who was 2nd , 3rd, 4th, 5th ????? until much later. Why do they do that ?
I think all of us old time Horse players are reading way too much into this. I've heard that some of Centennial Farm's owners are Nuns and they will have their prayer beads with them to coax Wicked Strong to be 1st at the finish line.
Actually I love cooked carrots
