I agree. If your goal is to win the KD, Preakness and The Belmont why would you want to burn so much energy trying to beat a track time. As long as you cross the wire 1st is the goal. The wider trip is tiring in itself.
Last year they said California Chrome was not bred to go 1 1/4 in the derby. Guess they were wrong. AP last ran 4/11 so it may take its toll ion him with the lack of rest time(4 races in 8 weeks). Like you though I hope he wins the Triple Crown
Would that be 4 races in 8 weeks?
Only concern I have is he is in good health (no injury after this race) and the amount of rest he gets between his last prep race and the next 2(Preakness and Belmont). 4/11 was his last prep race so this is a demanding schedule. I sure hope he can do it. I would be great for the sport, his connections etc.
I remember in 1 of the post race interviews with Baffert after AP beat Calculator as a 2 year old that Bob said no one would own up to what happened to AP's tail .Appears the thought is that Mr.Z bit it off
Funny as I was thinking the exact same thing that Firing line should run the Preakness and Frosted should skip the Preakness and go to the Belmont..I really liked Frosted's chances and was very impressed with Firing Line. I felt all along that American Pharoah and Dortmund were the only 2 colts this year that had a chance to win the KD, Preakness and Belmont. Since AP won the KD I hope he gets the other 2 as well. I hope and pray that all contenders come out of this race in good health. I was a great performance and show
If the track surface changed from polytrack last year to dirt this year it seems it would be hard to gauge what a good time was looking back at past years times for this race at this distance. Perhaps we will know more after the derby. I think he finishes in he top 4
Frosted was 3 to 4 wide the majority of the race and won impressively IMO with I believe a 105 BS figure
I like Frosted to win. I like American Pharoah, Firing Line and Mubtaahij
I agree as long as they are healthy enough to run. The trainers should be able to determine in their training should they want to move forward and run them. Like you said life is unpredictable, look at Shared Beliefs misfortune in the Charles Town . Best wishes for a safe and healthy trip for all on the whole race day cards.
