Do you know that up to a short time ago,Keeneland did not have an on track Announcer. The horses are great quality. I love betting Kee and Saratoga.Due to their exclusivety and esteem. Everyone wants to win there. This means that all horses are in it to win the race. You do not have to be a mind reader and figure out the trainers intent, for the most part. Agree with the Carpet. I love the old Keeneland, the one that was a speed trap.
Buck, afriend had an interesting idea and concept. Due to the esteem and privaledge of running in the Kentucky Derby. The top 15 point earners get the usual guaranteed entry. On the next 5 slots, take the top 10 pt earners and put their names in a hat. Have a lottery system. The 5 names selected are in. The balance become AEs'. This would encourage more to run their horses. The incentive would be to get into the top 15.
Never been to Keeneland, was in Lexington twice for the sales.Never got to go to the track.Hear from many,it is a must trip.
Don't worry about coats, just let me know if you are coming for sure. You'll hang out in the dining room with us.We'll head down to the paddock to see them. All this comes with one condition. That you wear a Jacoby Ellsbury Yankee shirt. Just kidding, but let me know if you are coming.Would be great to spend a day at the races.Especially at the BIG SEEDY. Who knows,if Rudy or any other friend win. You can have your picture taken in the Winners Circle. The Ultimate will be,if Lisa can find us a 3yo that might win one of those races under our silks.
Horses retiring has never been an issue with me, i look at it as an opportunity for someone else to step in and take the baton. As long as they are healthy to the point were they can continue their lives.I have no problem. You are probably right about soundness issues. I always say, horses are never rewarded in the peeak season with a time off vacation.I was lucky enough to see him very up close when he ran in tthe Tom Fool. I do know Joel loved this guy alot. Vyjack ran that next race in the Gotham. We were teasing Rosario as to why he had to ride so hard,Rudy had Head Hard Hoof in the Tom Fool who he liked. Joels persistance and Commas guts won that race.He got passed twice and came back. Rosario was cool, all he said to Rudy,i'll just have to make it up for you in the Gotham.
Sullivan i do agree in what you say about Coolmore and standing sires. One thing i can say for them as an organization. I do know a friend who is very close to their operation. They respect their horses. They will never rush them and put them in a position to fail.Although the Cash Call makes a lot of sense,i just can't see these guys running 2 turns off a layoff and a 3F work. I say Turfway, because it is a carpet ,and they have 2 Derby Preps in the Spring. If for some reason he shows them something, then they proceed. If not they will go to Plan B,C,D etc. Their depth in quality racehorse allows them the patience and the ability to experiment. So long that it does not affect their horses physically.
Personally Buck,i think rewarding KD points to 2 year olds is unfair. It rewards the more precocious bred horses. The ones that more than likely will never have a chance to win the Derby. But the thrill and Honor to just be in the Starting Gate, will more than likely prevent serious contenders from entering.I honestly do not think the Derby committee realy cares much of what horses enter the Starting gate. They know that one way or the other, the top 5-7 horses will qualify ,because of their overall abilities. I have said it before and will continue to say it. If you put 20 claimers to run in the Derby and never told anyone. It would not lose its' luster. The brand has strengthened so much over the past decade. It is no longer a race,it is an event like the Super Bowl.
Coolmore will run this horse wherever they feel he will excel. The one thing i doubt is that they will sell him.One thing that these guys need as much as they need a hole in the head is money. They will maximize his talents to the furthest. If this guy were ever sold, Buyer Beware. There are certain connections you never buy from. This horse reminds me in a way like another Ward horse,Pablo. He also has him for Coolmore. For his races to be spaced out so much.Something has to be up with him.Never say never, but would seriously doubt the Cash Call on Saturday. If they had any interest to run him there, why work at Keenelands carpet and not Hollywoods. I think if they ever tried to take a shot at the Triple Crown, the road would go through Turfway Park and Keenelands Blue Grass.
Laz,not only The Young A merica, but that was a time when The Meadowlands was thriving. When they started the night racing,it brought an entire new perspective to the Gotham City area. Always loved the "Ernie Banks" lets play2 concept on Saturdays. Belmont Park in the daytime and then The Meadowlands as the nightcap.Did not get better than that.
This had to be a prep,i would give it more shots going longer. Once Javie took the other, they told you that it was not today.
