Sullivan, appreciate your thoughts on the race, however, "a tiring Ruffian"?!? I am sorry, that would not happen. Ruffian was a sprinter, and also a long distance horse wrapped up in a show horse's body. The longer she went, the faster she went. Have you read about her trainer telling her jockey to continue to let her race one time after the finish line? It turned out she was faster at that longer distance on the clock. She was able to keep that speed up. That is why and what made her the Greatest. Let us not fail to remember what Secretariat's trainer stated about Ruffian. There has been NO other horse to have been said to be better than Secretariat. NONE
I loved Swale, he was so good looking, and I picked him to win. Amazing how that first photo makes him look like the greatest ever, Ruffian. Can you all imagine had the two of them lived? What offspring?! I have a Slew granddaughter and she has that same pretty face. Why don't we have as much of these looking horses in today's racing? The decade of the 70's and early 80's were really the end of the true champions. Sure, we've had some good ones, but they could not match up with Ruffian or Slew, Secretariat, and may I remind: Ruffian was the ONLY horse that was spoken to have been better than Secretariat. No filly, colt would have headed her, and Swale was prob. my all time favorite colt back then. Now, I watch my own, I had hopes for Orb since who's he's related to, but that did not work out. Swale was so gorgeous, and he and Ruffian would have set this world afire, with their ability and their looks. Champions that looked like show horses. RIP, we miss you both Ruffian and Swale. Wonder what name their offispring would have had. He was far enough from Bold Ruler to have been bred to her had tragedy not struck them both. Alot of times I hate this sport, we forget these are living, breathing beings, not machines.
and someone needs to take this down, IMHO, it is incorrect and it is dissing the other horses who would have not finished in the positions they did. Zenyatta was a great mare, but the true champions were in the decade of the 70's, when they were not so inbred as they are now. Totally different horses. Beating Citation?? Come on now..
this is pure BS; anyone that knows the sport would know that Ruffian could NOT have been caught by Zenyatta. I like Z, But Ruffian was a sprinter and a distance horse at the same time. This "simulation" was made at the height of zenyatta's fame. Ruffian would have been so far ahead that Zen could not have caught her. Sorry.
Those that are putting Zenyatta over Ruffian simply do NOT remember Ruffian! There is NO way Zenyatta would have caught her! Ruffian was a sprinter, a distance horse, and a show horse all in one. We will never see that again. Why did we have to lose her like that is just like why did we have to loose Dale E. #3 like that, both wrapped in black, and on the track. No, sorry, the 'newbies' will put Zenyatta or Rachel first, but Ruffian would have run them into the ground trying to catch her beautiful self. Remember, only ONE horse was said to have better than Secretariate; and that is our gorgeous Black Queen, The Greatest Ever, Ruffian
No other horse, even a colt, has been mentioned as being better than Secretariat, Ruffian was indeed the best we have ever seen, a sprinter and a distance horse all wrapped up in a show horses' body. We do not, nor have not, will not see anyone like Ruffian again
why buy a Bandini? why not? the price was great, my best friend is the boss, she knows the industry for over 30plus years, and you have FuPeg as the sire's sire, and Forestry as the BM sire. She was hurt today, but we love her anyway, win or lose. We are not like most idiots that only care about the money and not the animal themselves. Thank you..
Our girl did great in her first race! A strong run along the rail to get up in the front for almost 3rd! Good job, Soraya!! :)
