A nose, a head or a neck. The horse lost. Get over it. Bayern beat him. Beat CC again. Now two out of three. Bayern has proved him to be the better of the two horses, albeit in the last few months, to be the better of the three year olds.
End of story.
Postpartum. Getting bulled backwards by Bayern...running eractically down the stretch the first time...not collaring the speed of the race going into the far turn...just a couple of thoughts.
Sure, understoood. But I don't think the Classic was controversial. He won. He proved best. Shared Belief got beat. He wasn't going to win that day. And Toast of NY wasn't going to win either.
And California Chrome had the best possible trip. He didn't fire like he did in the SA Derby, KY Derby. No excuses.
This is a year where endurance and stamina stands out as much as anything else. And voters appreciate that as much as anything else.
Actually I origally thought the race was about 150 yards too long for Bayern. But give him credit. He won.
Mary, as a CC fan I have to disagree. Bayern won the Classic. The horse beat CC two out of three. Hard one to swallow but you have to give him credit. Bayern raced ten races at seven different states and beat multiple
Grade 1 racehorses. He endured the most and lasted the longest in a long, long year. Bayern, in a year that spotlighted three year old males, endured the most and lasted the longest. At least to now, that is.
..."too many voters..."
PS - I backed CC in the Classic but Bayern proved the best.
Main Sequence will not win the HOY over Bayern. At this point the HOY is Bayern's to lose.
Down year for turf horses. The story of the year belonged to three year old males.
Bayern lasted the longest. And will and should win the HOY.
Congrats to Bayern, whom just not only won the BC Classic but also HOTY. Beat CC in his last two races and clobber Untapable in the Haskell.
Really shouldn't even be close.
Again, congrats to Bayern.
johnston 7641 - you've hit the nail on the head. Congrats to you for getting it. Don't give a rat's a.. what he said. Hell, Woody Stephens said more things worse than what Mr. Coburn ever said. Over at BH, at certain author penned six paragraphs and over 1,000 words making Mr. Coburn a racing pariah. For God sakes move on. California Chrome, as I suspect, will return to the races. In the meantime, get ready for the summer shows of Del Mar and Saratoga.
