This horse has an unbelievable kick. When I first saw it in the Spiral Stakes, I chose him for my KY Derby pick. When I saw the kick repeated in the Derby and then in the Preakness, I knew this horse was something special. Can't wait for next year!

I don't think anyone hates Barbaro

I loved Barbaro, but you can't say for sure he was gonna win. There was an incredible chance, yes, but who knows if he would have beaten Bernardini or if he could have gone the distance in the Belmont. His ranking is where it should be. Barbaro had tons of potential, but we never could see how he fared against the other three years olds at the end of the year or older horses. We never got to see how good he truly was. You judge horses on performance, not potential.

And what I meant by haters is: Like people who rate Big Red a "3" or Ruffian a "5", or Seattle Slew a "6" I saw all those ratings, on those greats. Maybe there has been somebody rating him a 2 or something. That is just a possibility, probably not true, though.

Tirple Crown winner? SInce it is so rare and so based upon dumb luck that is a very very much of a long shot.

As for why he isn't ranked higher. It is probably because of haters, and the fact he broke down, and he never showed his potential.

I think the rating merely reflects Barbaro not getting an opportunity to race more than a few times. He was a brilliant colt filled with promise. But tragedy kept him from being able to show us how good he really was. As far as I know not a soul in the world hates him.

He had a promising but brief career. It is always tragic to lose a horse during a race, we have seen some great ones go down, Eight Belles & Ruffian hit me the hardest.

Dressage is correct about his TC chances. We will never know FOR SURE. But again (I've said the about like 10 times) I PREDICTED him to win it after is FL Derby. So, obviously, I do think it was VERY possible.

imo Bayakoa had her measured every step of the way. It was tragic that Go for Wand broke down but Bayakoa would not have lost that day.

Go For Wand was one of my dad's favorite horses and Bayakoa was one of mine. Dad cried after that race and I felt like crap too. I remember them both winning on BC day the year before at Gulfstream. Very sad.

I'll clarify. Ruffian beat a total of 3 Grade 1 winning racehorses. Anyone remember Aunt Jin? I don't. Now place Ruffian in a race with over 20 multiple Grade 1 racehorses like Zenyatta did. Now tell me how would she do? Please, anyone? The fact is that Ruffian wasn't tested.

Kincsem, race mare undefeted in 54 starts......I believe she would get the call.

Had Ruffian faced the same males as Zenyatta she would have been 0/2 at 10 furlongs.

But about Silky I do know. Silky was unable to go a distance. He was fine at shorter 7f races, and 5f. Even went a bit farther, but 10f was too far. After the Derby and Preakness he retired, siring nothing like him but making a small impact on the QH industry. My friend owns a QH who she claims has Silky Blood.

At SA with Synthetic... I don't know.

Maybe in a match race, but at 9 furlongs and beyond Zenyatta was the greatest racemare to ever live.

No, Ruffian wasn't tested just like Man O' War. If only all three could have been foaled in 1970, some kick arse racing between the four!

Hot N Nasty broke her maiden by 13 alengths then won the Hollywood Lassie, Schuykill, Arlington-Washington Lassie, Test and Susquehana. Placed in the Cotillion, Signiture and Monmouth Sorority earning $263,000. Aunt Jin winner of the G-1 Monmouth Oaks and Selima and G-3 Mermaid, Signiture and Post Deb. Winner of ungraded Marlboro Nursery and Cherry Hill Oaks. Placed in the Alabama, Camelia, Comely and Matchmaker. 3rd in the Jasmine earned $271,000. Laughing Bridge winner of the G-2 Adirondak and Schuylerville. Placed in the Spinaway and Astoria. 3rd in the Anoakia. Earned almost $80K. Bear in mind all are 1974-75 earnings and they are 70's fillies. Not the genetically washed out, drug dependent creatures that can barely run 6 times a year. If you would have wanted a fair comparison for Ruffian it would have occurred in the fall when she would have faced the great Susans Girl and possibly Tizna as well, but unfortuately fate had other plans.

Could Zenyatta Run 1.5 Miles in 227? No way to know.. Plus Id say Ruffian has the advantage at 1.5 she ran it and was impressive Z only ran 200 minutes that was the max we ever seaw her.. And she was 1/2 at that distance.

airedale2008, I said 9 furlongs because that would be the shortest distance that would have been fair to both horses. Comparing horses based on their final times is simply inaccurate, especially when they're separated by over 30 years. I just a horse be the company they keep and the fact is that in the first 4 starts of her career Zenyatta had already beaten better horses than Ruffian had in her whole career. I'm sure Ruffian was capable of more, but we will never know. It would be like me declaring Landaluce the best filly ever because of what I thought she could have done later in her career. Zenyatta showed me enough in her career to indicate she could run with anyone.

Sunline would've kicked her butt hard on turf.

stevebiscuit: I don’t understand your decision to choose 9 furlongs here. Ruffian ran the 12 furlong Coaching Club American Oaks in 2:27 4/5, setting a new stakes record. Some have commented that she was not pressed to her potential and could have been more impressive if asked. I will never denigrate Zenyatta, as she was a fabulous addition to the sport and beat all who faced her but one. We will never know what Zenyatta would have clocked at a mile and a half. The fact is that Zenyatta was not faster than Ruffian and therefore, IMO, at 9 furlongs and beyond was not the greatest racemare to ever live.

First, let Ruffian run against winners in Grade 1 races and then, and only then, we'll talk. Beating up on non-descript, non Grade 1 winning racehorses in not a ticket to a higher level. At least Zenyatta did face and beat Eclipse Award Champions and Grade 1 winning raceborses.

Speed horses have won just about EVER match race of the past century. One on one CLOSERS are a bad wager..Now IN a field of others, at 9 furlongs or more, the Z girl would have a gerat shot. SHe should just not have been. Not another one like her in my lifetime other than Silky and he couldn't keep it up

shadow, good job on those stats. Be sure to repost those around the anniversary of the Match Race and her death when the little teenage girlies start threads with, "She would have won that Match Race." Now as sweet as that is, it is like blood in the senclair waters and makes me sick, but I will get right down into the broken bones ground into the track with senclair. Just waiting for July. Let's tell the kiddies all about it this time.
