I've been impressed with Monday's last two trips. She won them both with strong stretch runs. I'd like to see her move up a class and see how she does.
This accident happened near the 1/8th pole - right in front of the grandstand. Terrible! Mangalee lying on the track and Black Mango, standing, as brave as ever, waiting for his fate. #7 was DQ'ed. This was the second DQ for that horse. Two races before, the #7 (Blast The Cat), threw his jockey at the gate and lept over the rail. My thoughts are with Navin Mangalee and the brave Black Mango. I find it hard to get them out of my mind.
This was a great race - almost lost my voice. You could have thrown a blanket over the front four coming down the stretch. This race is what going to the track is all about.
I thouroughly enjoyed watching Semenya hold off Decoy coming down the stretch. Sporty Semenya went off at 21 to 1 - and brought home the bacon! I had her as my pre-race favorite, but cut back on my wager because I watched the odds go too high. Woops!
Can Jerry'shoneycarol catch Marks Minel? Then there's My Lil Shamrock driving on the back stretch and Isadaisybelle stalking in the far turn. This year's California Oaks is going to be a good one. A big plus for NorCal and Golden Gate Fields.
Rathgar is fun to watch - always competitive.
It's easy to lose track of how many wins Russel has. Thank goodness they post his record on the tote board at GG!
I like Shanghai Bobby with Rosie up. Rosie won't allow him to ease in the manner that he did in the BC. I think he'll put away Bern Idenity in the last 1/16th.
Ooops! I said "...one of THE most...", when I should have said "...one of MY most..." Watching a 50-1 shot cross the line at Churchill Downs was a great thrill. Maybe not the greatest in the annals of the sport, but thrilling nonetheless. I recently saw a horse, Shi'ah Sand, cross the finish line at Golden Gate at 131-1. That wasn't the greatest fete of all time, but I won't forget it for quite a while.
He was a horse that people came to see. I saw him at Golden Gate in 1984. He had just won the GG Handicap. I got close to him at the winners circle.
