sounds like you are a big CC fan Johnnie. Great column! I like you believe that California Chrome has been ultra impressive. Hopefully he gets a solid PP and a good break out of the gate in the Derby, and he Will be the one to beat. It will be California Chromes Day, and all of those fortunate to bet him at big odds in the KDF Pools. Stealing one of your lines Johnnie, you won't hear it from me, but I've got CC in KDFW pool 2 at 30-1 in an exacta box with the field. Go CC.
Good analysis Laurie. I have Wicked Strong ranked #2 on my derby list. #1 is California Chrome, i've had him ranked #1 on my list since his romp in the San Felipe. I think you are wrong on your pedigree analysis for California Chrome. The Trainer Art Sherman believes the 1 1/4 will be no problem for him. Hopefully Chrome will burst from the pack at the top of the stretch, it wll take alot to reel him in.
So Happy for the Owner and Trainer and the Jockey, and for California Chrome. I have liked him since his January win in the Cal Cup.He will be very dangerous in the KY Derby
Bring home the roses Chrome!
Strong Mandate drew well at post 4, no excuses this time, he won't be wide on the turns. Looking for a big performance form him.
Terrific performance By California Chrome in the S. Felipe. I've got him at 30-1 in KDFW pool 2. He's my #1 horse, #2 in Strong Mandate, looking for a strong performance from him in the Rebel. Cal. Chrome romped after a 6 wk. layoff. If the trainer wants to rest him and train him up to the Derby its ok with me. As long as he bolts out of the gate, gets good position, he has the pedigree and staying power, he will be fresh and training well, they will all be chasing him, and getting tired at the top of the long CD stretch. I look for Strong Mandate to be in the mix also, don't be surprised if Lukas trains Strong Mandate up to the derby if he wins the Rebel.
Go Conquest Titan! Flying late surging to the wire!
My top 5 are #1 Top Billing, #2 Strong Mandate, #3 California Chrome, #4 Conquest Titan, #5 Honor Code
Nice list Brian! I am glad that you give alot of Kudos to Strong Mandate. He is also very high on my list. He has a big shot in the Derby. Glad to get him at 27-1 in KDFW pool 1. Top Billing seems to me to be the horse to beat. Even a 3rd in the Fla. Derby would get him in with the points. He is a major player. I got him at 11-1 in KDFW pool 3. Crossing my fingers with California Chrome. If he runs in the S. Felipe like he did in his last start, he has a big shot to win the race, and get into the derby field as a major contender. I got him at 30-1 in KDFW pool 2. Glad to see Conquest Titan running in the Tampa Bay Derby. Looking for a strong late run from him. We know he loves CD. He needs points so he will be all out for a big performance on Saturday. I got him at 29-1 in KDFW pool 2. The jury is still out on Honor Code. An awfully long layoff from his last start. First start as a 3 yr. old. The talent is there, but the Remsen was run at a snails pace. He will have to do some serious running to keep up with Strong Mandate in that race. But like you said, if he puts in a solid performance in the Rebel, and goes on to improve in the AK derby, then he seems to be a legit contender for the KY Derby. Alot of people whine about the KDFW bets, but I think they are alot of fun to play. You can get some real value in the pools, and if your horse stays healthy, qualifies for the derby, and is in form, you have a big shot to collect.
Love to hear that Cal Chrome is training well for the S. Felipe, I got him at 30-1 in KDFW Pool 2.
